International Business 3094: Social Entrepreneurship: Sustainable Solutions to Global Challenges
The Social Entrepreneurship Honors Seminar ended up being one of the most unique and challenging yet rewarding experiences I have ever had. As a business student, understanding entrepreneurship has always been an interest of mine. However, learning about the social value of entrepreneurship opened my eyes to the potential impact that businesses could have on citizens of undeveloped countries. This course consisted of ten students at UC, and twelve students at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) who all worked in teams of four and five to develop business plans for products of social value in third world countries. The course also included an early five day trip to Montreal which allowed us to get to know each other, pick teams, and experience an international setting. Having the opportunity to work with students from a different country was an awesome learning experience. This allowed me to expand my perspective on social issues and help our team come up with many different solutions to multiple problems around world today. Admittedly, when choosing this course, I expected it to be an “Easy A” class with a trip to Canada. However, it turned out to be the most challenging course I have taken at UC thus far. I was able grow a lot from this course which turned out to be a very rewarding experience as I now have friends from all around the world.
