The Leadershape Institute
In December of 2016, I had the amazing opportunity to attend The Leadershape Institute which is a six day long leadership program at Camp Higher Ground Conference and Retreat Center. Over 50 other University Honors Students from UC attended this program as well. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in to this experience, but this ended up being one of the best programs that I had ever attended. The program was designed to help participants discover and shape their ability to not only become better leaders, but to also lead with a strong sense of integrity. In addition to this, throughout the week we were split into smaller groups where we were able to have deep discussions on a wide range of topics. These deep discussions allowed us to form individual visions about our specific leadership aspirations which was an amazing thing to form and discover.
One of the ways we were able to express our vision were through the “Tomorrow’s Headline” task in which each student was able to create their own news headline that outlined what their vision could potentially lead to in the future. My vision, titled “Widespread Availability of Technology Connects People Worldwide” focuses on third world countries who currently aren’t technologically connected with the rest of the world. If there were stronger connections in those areas, it would be much easier for knowledge and ideas from those locations and vice versa to be shared. With everyone becoming more technologically connected, more new ideas and the spread of knowledge will lead to a more prosperous world. |
