Accelerating Racial Justice (ARJ) 2018
In the fall of 2018, I was able to take part in the Accelerating Racial Justice program at UC. This program, similar to RAPP, set out to bring about important conversations regarding race in our society and everyday life. ARJ did an amazing job of facilitating people with different mindsets and perspectives to come together and have conversations about very difficult and touchy topics. The programs and activities that took place during this retreat worked well to influence a broader mindset while also bringing new information to the table that really fosters a broader, deeper perspective on the world.
Never before have I seen a large group of people become so close in such a short amount of time than I have during this retreat. The picture I included below speaks to that, as it includes some ARJ members who decided to plan and orchestrate a get together following the retreat. The planned outing was a cultural potluck, which worked to continue furthering the discussions we had from ARJ. I was able to meet and befriend so many amazing people during my time in this retreat, which made it such a uniquely valuable experience.
